Abstract

Abstract Present paper reports the structural and photoluminescence property of Y6Ba4(SiO4)6F2:Gd3+ apatite structured phosphors prepared by conventional solid state reaction method. Structural investigation was done by X-ray diffraction pattern, Scanning Electron microscope(SEM),Energy dispersive spectroscope(EDX) and Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscope(FTIR). X-ray diffraction pattern confirms the formation of Y6Ba4(SiO4)6F2:Gd3+ into apatite structure with space group P63/m . SEM image reveal that the prepared phosphors are agglomerated with rod-like structure. EDX spectra confirms the presence of initial reactant into the prepared phosphors. Photoluminescence emission spectra peaks were obtained at 361 nm and 467 nm for excitation wavelength 275 nm.PL emission peak at 361 nm is due to the transition from 6P7/2 8S7/2 whereas peak at 467 nm is attributed to surface defects.
