Abstract

A novel and efficient acid pickling inhibitor containing triazine and methionine groups against corrosion in 1 M HCl for 2024-T3 aluminium alloy was prepared. The novel inhibitor drove the inhibition efficiency to nearly 99% in 1 M HCl due to the formation of a compacted adsorption film. Especially, localized inhibition behaviour in the presence of the synthesized inhibitor was deeply studied mainly with electrochemical noise method (ECN), SEM, and Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy (KPFM). EDP and SDPS plots depicted the localized corrosion in 1 M HCl varying from low concentration to high concentration and XPS reveals that different localized corrosion behaviour is due to the different adsorption forms on the surface along with varied concentrations.
