Abstract

The present study deals with aluminium (Al) and Silicon carbide (SiCp) nano composite material which has been developed by a hybrid process of ultrasonication. Silicon carbide nano particles with weight fraction of 1, 1.5 and 2% are mixed with molten aluminum. From the tensile test of Al-SiCp (2 wt%) nano composite, maximum tensile strength (147.55 MPa) and minimum percentage of elongation of 2.70 were established. From the experimental observation of metal matrix nano composite (MMNC), the micro hardness value 67.19 HV, Modulus of Elasticity 35.98 GPa, Yield strength 514.96 MPa and Compression strength 694.88 GPa were obtained. It was also observed that mechanical properties of Al-SiCp nano composite material were increased due to intensification of SiCp nano particle. Optical microscopy was studied for position and orientation of nano particle in the nano composite. Machining was carried out at different parameters and minimum cutting force was observed. The chip morphology study shows the types of chips produced for different weight percentage of nano particles.
