Abstract

The Nb doped TiO2 nanopowders modified polyaniline (TNO-PANI) and polyaniline (PANI) coatings are electrodeposited galvanostatically on 316 stainless steel bipolar plates for proton-exchange membrane fuel cells in 0.5 M aniline and 1 M H2SO4 solution with and without Nb doped TiO2 (Nb-TiO2) nano-powders, respectively. Electrochemical measurements in 1 M H2SO4 solution indicate that the addition of Nb doped TiO2 (Nb-TiO2) powders can increase the corrosion potential and decrease the corrosion current density of the PANI coating. During the 20 days immersion, the TNO-PANI composite coating can protect the 316 stainless steel more effectively through its barrier effect and in-situ anodic passivation effect.
