Abstract

In this work, a comparative study for the adsorption of malachite green, congo red and direct red (textile dyes) has been carried out using Zeolite Imidazole Framework (ZIF-L). ZIF- L was synthesized using wet chemical method. The analysis of crystal structures and morphological details of as-synthesized sample was carried out using X-ray Diffractometer (XRD) and Field Emission Scanning Electron microscopy (FESEM). The optical study of the sample was carried out by using UV–Visible spectrophotometer and the value of energy bandgap was calculated using Tauc’s plot. The associated functional groups were analyzed by using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. A comparative study for the adsorption of textile dyes was performed under dark conditions and the obtained adsorption efficiencies of Malachite Green (MG), Direct Red (DR) and Congo Red (CR) were found to be 84.3%%, 85.2% and 88.2%, respectively. The synthesized ZIF-L shows high adsorption efficiency towards MG, CR and DR degradation.
