Abstract

Abstract Hydroxyapatite (HAp) is highly biocompatible and osteoconductive bioceramic material which is found in bone and teeth. The mechanical property of synthetic HAp is very poor so it cannot be used as load bearing implants. One approach to improve its mechanical properties is use of dopant ions. The aim of this study is to synthesize titania doped HAp and to compare doped HAp structure with pure HAp. Here, pure and titania doped HAp was synthesized using wet chemical method and characterized by XRD, FTIR, SEM and EDAX. It was observed that, the lattice parameter, crystallinity of doped HAp was decreased than the pure HAp due to distortion in the structure. The presence of titania in the doped HAp was confirmed by EDAX analysis.
