Abstract

The PAN-based carbon fiber and phenolic composite laminate (PC-Ph) materials are well-fabricated to fulfill the thermal protection system's needs. In this paper, the composites were prepared and characterized to investigate the thermo-mechanical properties are discussed. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS)are used to determine the composition and microstructure of composite laminates. The mechanical-physical properties such as bar coal hardness and density were studied. The thermo-mechanical property and different characterization techniques show that the PC-Ph composites are excellent insulating/ablative materials for re-entry vehicles, defence, marine, and other industries.
