Osmium oxide hexafluoride OsOF 6 is prepared by fluorination of osmium tetraoxide using krypton difluoride in HF solution. This new Os (VIII) derivative is characterized by elemental analysis, X-ray powder data and vibrational spectroscopy. The fluorination of the ruthenium and osmium tetraoxides is compared and briefly discussed.
