Abstract

Six new organomolybdenum and organotungsten halides with general formulas η5-C5Ph5Mo(CO)3X-nCH2ClZ and η5-C5Ph5W(CO)3X (X = Cl, Br, I) were synthesized through the reaction of, η5-C5Ph5M(CO)3Li formed from η5-C5Ph5Li and M(CO)6 with PCl3, PBr3 or I2 and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR and MS spectroscopies. The structure of η5-C5PPh5Mo(CO)3I·0. 5CH2Cl2 was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. It crystallized in the triclinic space group Pl with cell parameters a = 8.476(2), b = 10.704(2), c = 19.075(4) A, α = 84.20(3), β = 88.42(3), γ = 71.58(3)°, V = 1633.7(6) A3; Z = 2 and Dx = 1.616 g cm−3. The final R value was 0.046 for 4161 observed reflections.
