Abstract

This paper reports the synthesis and characterization of six new coordination polymers having the following stoechiometric formulations: Ag2(tr2ad)(NO 3)2·H2O (1), Ag3(tr2ad)2(ClO4)3·EtOH (2), Ag(tr2ad)(PF6)·H2O (3), Ag3(tr2ad)2(BF4)3·H2O (4), Ag2(tr2ad)(CH3SO3)2·3H2O (5) and Ag3(tr2ad)2(CF3SO3)3·EtOH (6) (EtOH = ethanol). The compounds were obtained from the interaction between the 1,3-bis(1,2,4-triazol-4-yl) adamantane ligand (tr2ad) and silver(I) salts with different counteranions, in alcoholic ambient at room temperature. All the compounds are air- and moisture-stable, insoluble in most common solvents and do not melt, but only decompose upon heating to high temperatures, thus suggesting their polymeric nature. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was employed in order to reveal both the changes in the absorbtion bands of the ligand upon coordination to silver(I) ions and the binding modes of the counteranions.
