Abstract

The structure and aromaticity of metalla-aromatics show diversity. In this work, we report the synthesis of cyclopropaosmabenzenes, which contained an aromatic osmacyclopropene and an aromatic osmabenzene unit. The complexes were isolated from the reactions of OsCl2(PPh3)3 with enediynes E-HCCCH=C(SiMe3)CCR (R = p-tol, Ph) in the presence of PPh3 followed by the protonation with HCl. The σ-aromaticity (in osmacyclopropene unit) and the π-aromaticity (in osmabenzene unit) of the cyclopropaosmabenzene are supported by experimental observations and theoretical calculations.
