Abstract

Abstract The reaction of tetraaza[14]annulene nickel(II) complex with 3,3′-(octamethylenedioxy)dibenzoyl chloride led to a dark green crystalline solid strapped tetraaza[14]annulene nickel(II) complex having the cavity. The new strapped complex was investigated with the aid of elemental analyses, mass spectra, infrared spectra, and n.m.r. spectra. The mass spectrum showed a prominent parent peak at m/z 750 (58Ni). The infrared spectrum gave a strong carbonyl stretching band at 1658 cm−1. The 1H- and 13C-n.m.r. studies confirmed the structure of the strapped tetraaza[14]annulene complex.
