Abstract

Abstract The treatment of tetraaza[14]annulene nickel(II) complex with three kinds of dibenzoic chlorides in refluxing toluene containing triethylamine gave the corresponding strapped nickel(II) complexes in 13–57 % yields. The length of the methylene chain in the bridging group hardly influences the yield of the complexes. An elemental analysis of the strapped nickel(II) complexes is in fair agreement with the expected compositions. The mass spectra showed the remarkable molecular ion peaks, respectively. The infrared spectra indicated the strong C=O stretching band about 1660 cm−1 and the two C-O-C stretching bands about 1260 cm−1 and 1050 cm−1. The olefinic proton, signal at 7-and 16-positions in the strapped nickel(II) complexes disappears on the bridging reaction in the 1H NMR spectra. The new proton signals for the methylene group and the aromatic group appear. The result of 13C NMR spectra fits in with that of 1H NMR spectra. The structure of the strapped nickel(II) complexes is confirmed by elemen...
