Abstract

A sol-gel method was used to synthesize a 58S bioglass modified with manganese. The samples were characterized by several techniques. The incorporation of Mn was confirmed by XRD and EDS. The quantity of nitric acid used during the synthesis improved the gelation time. Mn contributed to the crystallization of the glass at 700 °C. Mn was homogenously distributed across the bioglass. The bioglass were bioactive, they formed phosphate groups after immersion in SBF for 48 h.
