Abstract

A novel series of 3-Chlorophenyl (1-(5-phenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl) indolizin-3-yl) methanone derivatives 9(a-n) synthesized and characterized by 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, EI - Mass, FT-IR and elemental analyses. The compounds were investigated for anticancer, antibacterial and antifungal activity. The anticancer activity of the compounds was evaluated against the MCF-7 cell line (HTB-22, Homo sapiens, Breast carcinoma). The compound 9a (IC 50 = 20.64 µM) and 9e (IC 50 = 23.48 µM) exhibited potent cytotoxicity activity compared with standard drug doxorubicin. The antibacterial activity was evaluated against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538 and Escherichia coli ATCC 8739. Compound 9j exhibited moderate antibacterial activity compared with standard drug Ciprofloxacin. The antifungal activity was evaluated against Candida albicans ATCC 10231. Compounds 9c, 9d, 9e and 9f exhibited moderate antifungal activity compared with standard drug Itraconazole.
