Abstract
The application of Mg-Li alloys has been consistently constrained by the trade-off between strength and damping capacity (Q−1). In this paper, the strength and Q−1 of Mg-8Li-4Y-2Er-2Zn-0.6Zr alloy were significantly enhanced using ultra-high pressure (UHP) treatment. After UHP treatment, the tensile strength, the elongation, and the Q−1 of the alloy reached 277 MPa, 24 %, and 0.05, respectively. The synergistic improvement of mechanical and damping characteristics of the alloy is analyzed comprehensively. The proposed UHP technology has the potential to be widely utilized for the development of high-performance Mg-Li components.
