Abstract

PrefaceThe international symposium “Symmetries in Science” (initiated by Bruno Gruber in 1979) continued with SIS XVII, July 30 - August 4, 2017 in Bregenz, Austria, following a break in 2015. Thirty-three scientists from 13 countries attended, again almost half of them from countries outside the European Union (from Mexico to South Korea, Brazil to Russia). For the first time since being in our charge, the conference took place at Gasthof Hotel Lamm, a location well-known to former participants and just across the road from the conference site of previous years. Gasthof Lamm was always a favourite meeting place for after-lecture and evening discussions (prolonged and inspired by one’s drink of choice) that sometimes went till well after midnight; this year was no exception.
