Abstract

A new phase sampled direction finding architecture based on the optimum symmetrical number system (OSNS) has been presented. The spatial resolution is the angular resolution of the direction measurement and is determined by M, the number of spatial resolution elements. The resolution can be increased by (1) increasing the number of moduli (channels), or (2) increasing the value of the individual moduli (larger number of comparators). With the proper choice of OSNS moduli, unambiguous high resolution angle measurements are possible with very short arrays.
