Abstract

Preterm birth is a global health-care problem that leads to significant neonatal morbidity and mortality,1 results in suffering within families, and incurs considerable health-care costs.2 Cerclage is a surgical intervention in which the cervix is closed with the aim of preventing pregnancy loss or preterm birth. Indications for cerclage are varied, including short cervical length in a current pregnancy or history of preterm birth or cervical insufficiency.3
