Abstract

Snowdrop (Galanthus elwessii Hooker) is highly regarded geophytes of South- Western corner of Turkey on Taurus Mountain chain. Snowdrop is a true bulb, flowers in late winter and early spring in the region. Flowering period varies from a week to two weeks depends on climatically changes from year to year, and also substantially in which altitudes they grow. Snowdrop is highly preferred by Western European growers due to its bigger flowers on longer stems and also firmer bulbs which are comparatively more resistant to long- way transportations. Various trials have shown that snowdrops prefer cooler climatically conditions where soil has adequate amount of moisture and higher organic contents, especially under deciduous trees at lower altitudes and vicinity of rocks and stony slopes at higher altitudes. The bulbs need to be removed in every 3- 4 year period for better performances and also to reach right size for domestic and international trading.
