Abstract

Environmental protection measures should minimise or avoid environmental damage in all phases of product life. Environmental damage is the result of many different processes in the product life cycle. The properties of the product are mainly responsible for the properties of the processes, including all kinds of emissions damaging the environment. Because most of a product’s properties are defined in the design process, product development has a high responsibility for the protection of the environment. To support the designer in designing environmentally sound products the authors suggest an Integrated Product and Process Development approach for Design for Environment modelling the product, the processes, and the relationship between them.
