Abstract

The adoption of sustainability in the conventional procurement process not only brings about improvement in organizational efficiency and waste reduction but also helps organizations to overcome supply chain risk and to achieve competitive position. Response to changing styles, trends and demand are the main drivers for fast fashion. The adverse impacts of fast fashion, wrong procurement decisions and production processes in the textile and fashion industry are discussed. Fashion and textile industry waste constitutes textile waste created during fiber, yarn fabric and apparel production, and thus can be referred to as pre-consumer textile waste, which is introduced in the fashion supply chain before the apparel reaches the consumer. Bamboo is the fiber of choice for designers as it gives higher yield per acre, grows quickly without pesticides and absorbs greenhouse gases during its life-cycle. The supply chain of the fashion and apparel industry works on the concept of transactional commercial flow.
