Abstract
Through the last two decades, the pharmaceutical and fine chemicals (PFC) industry witnessed complex challenges in development of sustainable products and processes. Tackling these called for innovative initiatives in development of eco-efficient products, design of safer products, synthetic redesign, enhancing energy efficiency models to name a few. This feature covers the transition of the PFC sector toward a sustainable manufacturing platform. It discusses initiatives within the sector covering sustainable approaches to leverage green chemistry and engineering, digital technologies, process analytical technology and how life cycle assessment and triple bottom line approaches are slowly enabling sustainability in all aspects of PFC industry.
