Abstract

Sustainability and in particular, environmental concerns have become increasingly prevalent in recent years, largely due to the visible effects of climate change. This global awareness has prompted a search for alternatives that allow us to move towards a more sustainable economy, influencing political and economic decision-making in all sectors. The United Nations published the 2030 Agenda in 2015, outlining 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to address global sustainability challenges. At a local level, Catalonia has also developed its own strategies focused on sustainable economic transformation aligned with the SDGs and the European Green Deal, including for example, strategies related to the bioeconomy, energy efficiency and circular economy. The aim of this study is to examine the current sustainability practices of major companies in Tarragona province, identifying the actions they take and certifications they have in the area of sustainability. This work contributes to a better understanding of the current situation regarding business and economic sustainability in the province of Tarragona, by identifying opportunities for investment and growth in areas related to economic and sustainable development.
