Abstract

Enclosed in the January, 1973 issue of the Canadian Modern Language Review was a survey sheet on which teachers of French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish were asked to list basic texts and intensive reading books. There were replies from 1 85 schools. Although Ontario schools were in the majority, replies came from every province in Canada: Eastern Canada, 20 schools; Ontario, 145 schools, of which 31 were from the elementary level; Western Canada, 20 schools. The response from Ontario secondary schools was the largest and provided a wide sampling from all parts of the province and from both large and small communities.
