Abstract

During the first half of 1969 the authors surveyed programs of family life and sex education in Washington State Secondary Schools. A 94 percent return from principals and an 85.5 percent return from teachers engaging in such programs provided a comprehensive picture which revealed a comparatively superficial exposure for about twothirds of the girls in the state and less then one-half the boys. On the whole the teachers, most of whom are in home economics and health education, reveal and admit inadequate preparation. The authors suggest that public schools continue to develop comprehensive programs and that teacher education institutions improve and expand their training programs.
