Abstract

The questioner raises two important issues related to the Academy statement on family life and sex education. (1) Do family life and sex education programs in schools serve as an effective preventive measure, or "immunization," against social health problems? (2) Are physicians and teachers adequately trained to carry out their roles in family life and sex education programming? What is needed in graduate and postgraduate training (in-service programs) which will improve quality of physician and teacher participation?
