Abstract

Chalcogenide glasses are the topic of great interest among scientists and researchers because of their versatile properties and widespread applications in the field of science and technology. Tremendous work has already been done on these glasses. Transparency in the near and mid-infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum makes chalcogenide glasses a suitable and potential candidate for the detection of biological and biochemical species. Phase transitions in chalcogenide glasses can be induced by various methods and this property is exploited to fabricate memory devices. In this manuscript, various techniques to fabricate chalcogenide glasses, thin films, and fibers are discussed along with the widespread applications of these glasses in divergent fields.
