Abstract
Character education in schools is one of the programs designed by the Indonesian government. The program is intended to re-instill the value of the nation's character. One of the manifestations is by holding a variety of additional activities or hereinafter referred to as extracurricular activities. Useful extracurricular activities can certainly be useful for the future of the nation's next generation. One of them is the Tapak Suci extracurricular activity, which can train the nation's successors physically and mentally. The purpose of this study was to find out how the role of the tapak Suci extracurricular character on the character education of the students of SMKIT Ibnu Katsir. In this study researchers used a qualitative approach method. The research was conducted at the SMKIT Ibnu Katsir located at JL. Rembang KM 7, Jember. Data collection techniques used are interviews, observation and documentation. The subjects of this study were students from the SMKIT Ibnu Katsir. Based on the results of the study, it is known that the character of the students who take part in the Tapak Suci extracurricular can develop well. It is evident from the habit of the students who were lazy to worship before participating in the exercise, after participating in the practice they became more diligent in worship, the students who lacked a sense of empathy became individuals who liked to help others, and the students who rarely valued time became individuals who really value time. So that the school is very supportive, even making the Tapak Suci extracurricular as an implementation of character education. This is also because the teachings in the holy site are considered in accordance with the school's vision and mission. The process of cultivating character by the Tapak Suci trainers during the training has always been successfully implemented within the students automatically, starting from the religious character, the character of tolerance as well as the character of discipline and responsibility..
