Abstract
Objective To analyze the results of surgical treatment on 19 patients with non-parasitic splenic cysts, with an aim to determine the best treatment strategy. Methods We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 19 consecutive patients with non-parasitic splenic cysts operated from April 2008 to April 2016 at the Beijing Chaoyang Hospital. We then analyzed the safety and effectiveness of surgical treatment according to the different surgical methods used. The patients were divided into the laparoscopic group and the open group, and the clinical data of the two groups were compared. Results All the patients were successfully treated by surgery. 10 patients underwent partial splenectomy, 8 splenectomy and 1 splenic cyst fenestration. Thirteen patients underwent open surgery, and 6 laparoscopic surgery. No patients died in the perioperative period. The splenic cyst diameter was (6.9±2.9) cm. There were 2 patients who developed postoperative complications, including 1 with wound infection and 1 with lymphatic fistula. The operation time, bleeding volume, time to first flatus and discharge time in the laparoscopic group were significantly better than the open group, and the differences were significant (P<0.05). Conclusions Surgical resection was the best strategy for treating non-parasitic splenic cysts. Laparoscopic surgery was a good treatment option. Key words: Splenic cyst, non-parasitic; Laparoscopic surgery; Open surgery
