Abstract

Prolapse of the vagina following hysterectomy is relatively infrequent at the present time. Massive eversion of the vagina can be treated by a variety of transvaginal and transabdominal surgical techniques. This report reviews the historical development of various operations and anatomical considerations to be kept in mind at the time of surgery. We have also incorporated our own preference for surgery: the vaginal approach used successfully in four patients. The procedure is described with a brief outline of its advantages. A review of literature encompassing recent advances in the subject completes our paper.
