Abstract

The characteristics of the plane surface waves supported by a plane ungrounded magnetoplasma slab are investigated for the case in which the magnetostatic field is oriented parallel to the two parallel interfaces but perpendicular to the direction of propagation. The dependence of the characteristics of the surface waves on the thickness of the plasma slab is discussed. For sufficiently small thickness of the plasma slab, backward surface waves arc found to exist. The group velocity as well as the amplitude characteristics of the surface waves are studied.
