Abstract

Theoretical investigations on the propagation of microwaves on a circular cylindrical conductor coated with a lossy dielectric and immersed in a lossy dielectric medium show that the surface wave characteristics such as guide wavelength, percentage of power flow etc. depend significantly on the ratio of the dielectric constants and also on the loss tangents of the inner and outer dielectric media. Under certain conditions of the relative dielectric constants and loss of the two dielectric media, the surface wave condition is not satisfied.
