Abstract

The influence of a positive external electric field on surface states at the X gap on Cu(100) surface was studied. The model potential was assumed to be a combination of the image and linear (external field) potentials. Contrary to the image potential case, we have found that the presence of a week field creates the localized states in the whole energy gap. The energy and localization behaviours of image-like and field-like states were investigated. The great sensitivity of these states on the shape of the potential near the crystal surface was also observed.
