Abstract

The chemistry of alkyl halides and ketene has been studied on Pt(111) and on thick layers of Cu on Ru(001). Using postirradiation analysis by high-resolution electron energy-loss spectroscopy and temperature programmed desorption, we have demonstrated the photodissociation of alkyl halides on these two substrates and the alteration of the decomposition channels of ketene. In this paper, we summarize previously reported work and report, for the first time, evidence for photodissociation on copper.
