Abstract

Ten laser frequencies near the blue and violet excitons in Cu 2O were used to study the resonance Raman intensities of the Raman-allowed phonon, Γ + 25, and of two Raman-forbidden phonons, Γ - 15 and Γ - 12. Cu 2O samples with chemically etched surfaces show Raman cross section enhancements from 10 3−10 4 and considerable structure whereas unetched crystals show much less enhancement and little structure.
