Abstract

During electrical discharge processing (EDP), electric discharges are used to modify the surface properties of engineering components such as cutting tools, dies and molds. In this work, experiments have been carried out to transfer the elements of Ti-6Al-4V over P20 mold steel by using EDP. Parametric study on the influence of process parameters such as current and discharge-time on the deposition of alloying elements viz. titanium and aluminum; and surface quality parameters viz. surface roughness and hardness has been conducted. Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS) results indicated that EDP could successfully alloy Ti and Al over the P20 work material.
