Abstract
Data are presented for a new property of interferon — the ability to reduce the quantity of chromosome aberrations induced by physical and chemical mutagens. The aberrations prompted under the influence of γ-rays are significantly diminished at the 6th hour of incubation of the cells in the presence of interferon. The aberrations induced by UV-rays decrease significantly at the 18th hour of the interferon action. Increase of aberrations after ethyleneimine treatment of cells is stopped at a lower, 6th hour level, when interferon is added. Considerations for possible mechanisms of the antiaberration effect of interferon are expressed.
