Abstract
The Power line filter is an Integral part of Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) control. Power line filters are selected on the voltage rating, current ratings and environmental conditions. Evaluating filter performance by standard method can be carried out in no load and full load conditions. Insertion loss defines the filter performance. The insertion loss levels offered in no load conditions do not predict actual insertion loss levels over desired frequency spectrum. But filter performance in full load conditions under actual operating conditions can conclusively determine Insertion loss levels. Another factor, which dominates filter performance, is the type of load to which filter will be exposed in the real practice. This paper deals with the characteristics of different types of power line filters in no load condition and full load condition. Study of characteristics of different types of power line filters at half & full resistive load impedance has also been dealt with. An attempt has been made in this paper to show different types of load result in different loss levels over frequency range of interest.
