Abstract

This article provides an overview of the past, present, and future of supervision in teacher education and offers a global perspective on the importance of supervision in teacher education. Supervisory practices common to teacher education programs worldwide are highlighted and so are the specific aspects of the supervisory process. Models of supervision in teacher education are described and examples of supervisory models from an international community of teacher educators are given. Efforts that are currently in place to improve teacher education through supervision indicate a universal awareness of the necessity of quality supervision in teacher education.
