Abstract

The deformation of fine-grained Al-5wt.%Ca-5wt.%Zn eutectic alloy has been investigated. The alloy showed superplastic behaviour between 400 and 500°C with a maximum tensile elongation of 500% and a maximum strain rate sensitivity parameter of 0.32. In the superplastic regime, an activation energy of 134 kJ mol −1 was found, a value close to that for self diffusion in pure aluminium.
