Abstract
America's holiday from history was a fake: America's peace was bought by the catastrophes going on elsewhere. These days, the predominant point of view is that of an innocent gaze confronting unspeakable Evil which stroke from the Outside and, again, apropos this gaze, one should gather the strength and apply to it also Hegel's wellknown dictum that the evil resides (also) in the innocent gaze itself which perceives Evil all around itself.
