Abstract
• Rational design of Pd-TiN electrocatalysts with ultrahigh bifunctional performances. • Precise Pd integration activates TiN surface, and high conductivity. • Pd-TiN NSs electrode delivers exceptional H 2 performance with lower over potential of 62.5 mV. The room temperature evaporation approach is employed to spread palladium nanoparticles atop metallic nitrides has enormous promise for systematic electrocatalytic activity optimization. The TiN nanostructures filled with well distributed palladium nanoparticles (Pd-TiN NSs) are created using a simple and effective hydrothermal technique. Pd-TiN NSs, as an electrode material, requires merely 62.5 mV overpotential to attain the desired current density of 10 mA cm −2 with smaller Tafel slope of 45 mV dec −1 , designating a quicker transfer of electrons and performs exceptionally well in H 2 . For first time, the electrocatalytic properties of Pd on TiN nanosheets have been investigated. Therefore, the study presents a unique, extremely reactive HER catalyst along with innovative key understanding into the structure and dynamics of palladium dispersed nitride electrocatalysts in acidic conditions.
