Abstract

Objective To evaluate the long term results of tendon transfer using superficial flexor tendon of ring to reconstruct thumb opponensplasty. Methods Eleven patients were treated by using superficial flexor tendon of ring to reconstruct thumb opponensplasty in hand surgery department of China-Japan Union Hospital of Jilin University from September, 2008 to December, 2010. The effect of thumb opponensplasty after operation by subjective and objective evaluation, and the data were analyzed retrospectively. Results The preoperative DASH score of 11 patients was 34.0±2.0, and postoperative DASH score was 19.7±1.9(P<0.05) after 67(64-71) months; the functional grade of thumb opponensplasty was excellent in 8 cases, good in 3 cases. Conclusion Through 67 months of follow-up evaluation, that the superficial flexor tendon of ring transferring to reconstruct of thumb opponensplasty is an accurate and reliable surgical method is confirmed.
