Abstract

An efficient method for decoding a color JPEG image coded as luminance and chrominance data and converting the output to red, green and blue data on RISC workstations is presented. Timing results are presented which show that these algorithms can be used in a software package to decompress and display images of size 352 × 240 at about 9 frames per second on the IBM RISC System/6000 Model 530 (a 25 MHz machine).
