Abstract

The Internet has transformed the modern world, penetrating all aspects of life, including international relations and diplomacy. This paper aims to present contemporary diplomacy, which is oriented towards the use of digital tools, in the conduct of foreign policy. The paper discusses the concept of digital diplomacy, which carries out its activities through the Internet, and then analyzes the elements of digital literacy that are necessary for successful communication on social media, especially on social networks. Examples are the failures that occur when there is insufficient control over the facts or the ability to establish good communication with the networked public. The concluding observations indicate that social media, which assist diplomats in marketing their projected foreign policy to domestic and foreign audiences, can also be a platform on which the reputation of individuals or states can easily be tarnished.
