Abstract
ALTHOUGH the English summer has long been a favorite topic for music-hall jokes, we are usually spared the violent extremes of weather that often cause tragic loss of life and property in other countries. This summer, however, has provided long hours of sunshine occasionally broken by violent thunderstorms. One of the most dramatic of these occurred during the Royal Ascot Race meeting, when lightning struck the spectators' enclosure.
