Abstract

Groundnut yield is enhanced by the sulfur supplement which aids in the improvement of chlorophyll synthesis leading to higher partitioning of assimilates resulting in high growth and yield parameters. Sulfur deficiency results in poor flowering, fruiting, cupping of leaves, reddening of stems, petiole and stunted growth. Sulfur is required for the synthesis of protein, oils and vitamins. Methionine (21 % S), cysteine (26 % S), Cystine (27 % S) are important amino-acids that are supplied by sulfur triggers protein synthesis and biochemical reactions that increases oil content and oil quality .Variety of sulfur sources and levels had been tried in experiments by researchers to evaluate the potential level that sustains high growth, yield and productivity of groundnut resulting in higher net returns. Application of sulfur about 40-60 kg ha-1 proved to an optimistic level through gypsum sources for groundnut.
