Abstract

Abstract A short text by Dio of Prusa is analyzed, regarding the orator’s personal judgment on kitharōidia and the relationship it has with sophistic art and tragic literature as means of cultural dissemination. The article aims to propose a plausible interpretation of the text, on the one hand by examining the (few) data provided by critical studies, and on the other, especially, by making use of the author’s main research work, carried out by collecting all the passages of musical interest and ‘sound events’ contained in Dio’s speeches.
