Abstract

ABSTRACT Multispectral data were used to estimate the above-ground forest biomass in the newly established carbon polygon in Bashkortostan. Field measurements were compared with Normalised Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Normalised Green-Red Difference Index (NGRDI) obtained from the Global Inventory Monitoring and Modelling System (GIMMS) dataset. The relationship between measured biomass values and vegetation indicators was linear; NDVI has the highest correlation coefficient with above-ground biomass and greatest significance at all sites, so regression relationships with NDVI were used to map the above-ground biomass.
